Life is so difficult.
There are no more opportunities, I am so busy and stressed. The previous generation had it way easier.
What can young people do? Will they ever get to own a house? Why is life so difficult for them?

This episode, Brent and Mark bring on their producer, Gideon. He is young, attractive, and very intelligent. He is definitely not writing this description.
What good has ever come out of enduring something difficult? In the spirit of enduring difficulty, we have made the audio quality very poor, but it is for your benefit.

063 - The Sovereign Individual

Wednesday May 08, 2024

Wednesday May 08, 2024

We are living in the Information Age.

This era is defined by the ability to collect, store, process, and transmit vast amounts of data really quickly. This leads to profound changes in how people work, interact, and perceive the world around them.

Mark and Brent are a bit old school. This is why today they decided to talk about a book. So old school in fact, that the book they chose to read is from last millennium. The Sovereign Individual by James Dale Davidson and William Rees-Mogg is about mastering the transition to the information age.

The Canadian Government has released their budget for next year! They are clearly doing their best to ensure that Canada is not a place where we incentivize people to provide value to the marketplace.
Instead, changes were made to the capital gains inclusion rate. Which basically means increasing taxes on gains made on already taxed money.
Brent and Mark begin this episode by breaking down the newly released Canadian budget. Then they answer a listener question about Bitcoin. They end the episode by recapping some insights from the episode with Jeff Booth.

Wise stewardship of our time and money requires thinking about the future. How often do you think about tomorrow? Tomorrow is unknown, uncertain, and often underestimated. What is the price of tomorrow?
That is the title of Jeff Booth's book.
Today Mark and Brent talk to Jeff to try and get their minds around what the future could look like from first principles thinking. Jeff Booth is a technology entrepreneur. He has been in the tech space for a long time and built many successful companies. Jeff doesn't have a crystal ball, but he does have a unique way of challenging us to think outside the existing system.

Budgets are SERIOUS. So Serious in fact, that the government hires incredibly smart people to make them. Of course, they have to pay these smart people a ton of money (which comes out of the budget).
Once all the money is gone, they hire more smart people to find ways to make more of it, so that they can use the money to pay all the smart people.

This episode was recorded before the budget was released, so thankfully you don't have to hear Mark and Brent talk about budget too much. Instead they talk about: The unbalanced employment data, renters bill of rights, amortization relief, rent relief, and reality relief.

Fiat money brings ENORMOUS EARTHLY POWER and SUCCESS to those who can produce it, and to their allies, but it seems to leave a twisted trail of decay and debasement in its wake for everyone else.
The consequences of unsound money are far-reaching. And that is one reason we wanted to chat with Jimmy Song.
Jimmy is a cowboy hat wearing, Korean, Christian, coder from Texas. He has a very unique perspective on all this. He is the author of 5 bitcoin books. his latest book is entitled: Fiat ruins everything. So, if this episode lets you down, blame it on fiat.
Brent and Mark get Jimmy's take on the regression of civilization, the erosion of moral standards, the outsourcing of  virtue, and the debasement of your life. AND a missing chapter from his book exploring how fiat ruins churches.

If you have ever used money before, then you will want to hear what Jimmy has to say on why everything around you is ruined.

056 - Why Are Kids SO FRAGILE?

Wednesday Mar 20, 2024

Wednesday Mar 20, 2024

Get ready for a some interviews in the coming episodes! Mark and Brent have been so diligent in preparing for their upcoming episodes that they completely forgot about preparing for this one. So strap in.
Is there a transition happening from homeowners to tenants? How do we value a single-family home? There seems to be fewer homes being built and more investors buying them up. Are we going back to feudalism??
In other (completely unrelated, but still in this episode) news: Why are young people so fragile?

What if I told you that you use too much energy?
So, for the rest of the year, you aren't allowed to use your laptop, phone, dishwasher, laundry machines, furnace, air conditioner, or your fridge. You can't turn on the lights. You have to take cold showers. You aren't allowed to put gas in your car. And also, you can't eat food.

Is energy consumption bad?? Is energy itself scarce? If so, who should get to use the energy? For what reasons? Who gets to control the energy consumption?

We all use energy to improve the quality of our lives. In many ways, increased energy consumption encourages human flourishing.

The new monetary technology, bitcoin, uses a lot of energy. This is often seen to be a flaw of bitcoin. But is it? Listen in as Mark and Brent discuss the ins and outs, ups and downs, and all-arounds of bitcoin's energy consumption.

If you think we are going to run out of energy, we would love to hear your thoughts. Email us at hello@twostewards.ca
